It
is now 33 years since we left Uganda, many things have changed in our personal
lives as well as in our World in this time.
There
are number of events that will celebrate and remember these events, please

Testimony Films in Bristol are making the first ever 20th Century
history of
immigation and emigration between the South West of England and the
Commonwealth. The six part series is being made in collaboration with
the
British Empire and Commonwealth Museum here in Bristol, and will be
shown on
HTV next year. The series will be supported by a major exhibition at
the
Museum, together with a schools educational pack and a book.
We actually made an oral history film for the Museum last year,
which is on
permanent display there. One of the interviewees was a very successful
Ugandan Asian who now lives in Leicester.
They would like to contact Ugandan Asians who came to the South
West of
England in the exodus, as their experiences and stories are obviously
an
important part of South West history. The HTV region covers roughly
Gloucester in the North down to Yeovil in the South, and from North
Devon
across to Swindon.

will be covering the 30th anniversary of the Ugandan Asians that
were forced to leave Uganda. They are looking for London based Ugandan
Asians who have strong links with Uganda in the following ways:
- Still have a strong sense of Africa being their home.
- Perhaps have/had a personal relationship with a black Ugandan; a
relation, husband, wife, friend etc.
- Ugandan-Asian elders that have younger relations from different cultural
or ethnic backgrounds e.g.. black grandchildren.
- Cook Indian-Ugandan African food.
- Speak Ugandan Asian-African dialects.
- Personal pictures and family albums and film of life in Uganda
-Letters which show a Ugandan Asian and African relationship.
Guests and contributors must be London based, and need to be available
from the 16th of September until the 21st September .

Major
BBC documentary currently being developed as three part series
covering the history of Asians in the UK. The second programme covers the
period of the late 1960s through the early 1980s, starting with the
arrivals of Asians from Kenya to the Southall riots and Handsworth riots.
A major focus in the program however will be on Asians from East Africa,
particularly Uganda with the expulsion ordered by Idi Amin, and their life
stories once they arrived in the UK. They are trying to gather as many
stories as possible regarding the resettlement of East African Asians in
the UK and their lives since 1972. The stories don't have to be solely
about hugely successful families, although those stories can paint quite
colourful
stories. We are ideally looking for individuals who have a real story to
tell and whose experiences and memories heavily reflect and encompass the
sentiment of the time and the essence of the East African-Asian experience
in the UK.
