4. Brevetti su geni

How many genes in human

The scientists have found that human beings have far fewer genes than they thought, about 30,000, perhaps just a few hundred more than a mouse.  26000 to 40000 range not accurate.

  • Celera 26-40, 000 human genes.

  • Government Genoma program 30,000

  • Incyte Genomics 120,000

  • Human Genome Sciences 100,000

  • DoubleTwist 65,000 to100,000.

  • Affymetrix sells DNA analysis chips with 60,000

  • NIMH Human Genetics Initiative
World's largest registry of families affected by schizophrenia, manic-depressive illness, and Alzheimer's disease. Scientists are able to examine the genetic material of these family members with the aim of pinpointing genes involved in the diseases.

  • This brain disorder, like heart disease or diabetes, is complex and likely results from the interplay of genetic, behavioral, developmental, and other factors. There is an active search on several levels for the specific risk factors that may lead to schizophrenia.

  • The schizophrenia gene, discovered last year, is a promising lead for drug development because it encodes a protein that appears to be involved with the disease.  Roche agreed to pay deCODE up to $200 million for information taken from Icelanders' DNA.
